Viriditas: Sister An Mei Lam, Daughters of St. Paul

11/19/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Letting go and being open to transitions in life can be really difficult for some people. I guess it is because of my background, being from China, that I have been able to pretty easily adapt to different assignments given in religious life. 10/22/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

The Maryknoll Fathers had instilled in me the missionary spirit. Now that we have a lot of vocations in my diocese, it is my time to share in the mission. When my bishop asked me to do missionary work, to help the Diocese of Honolulu, I needed to discern it for a few months. I […]

10/09/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

When I was studying in Manila, my school was close by the church. I frequently stopped in to visit with the Lord. I also was a member of the men’s Eucharistic League, a group of men dedicated to the Eucharist who would once a month spend an hour before the Eucharist. I was assigned to […]

Sister Cheryl Wint, Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities: The spirituality of turning it off

09/25/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

As an extrovert, I am constantly on the go. It is really hard to stop the brain from thinking, the limbs from moving, everything from just going, and to simply be. And yet, when I do take time to turn off and tune out, emptying myself of any accountability to anyone or unnecessary talk, I […]

Father Patrick Thomas McDaid, Marianists: Aspiring to be a saint

07/31/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

VIRIDITAS: SOUL GREENING When I look over my life and meditate on all the gifts I have been given by God, it is truly amazing. In prayer, I can only thank the Lord for all I have received because I don’t deserve any of it; none of it was earned by myself. But the doors […]

Sister Margaret Timothy Sato, Daughters of St. Paul: Finding strength through the ‘visit’

07/16/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

If we look around, almost everyone in the world has a phone in their hands, watches television, and listens to music or the radio. As the culture of communication permeates life, more so is there a need for an apostolate where we can reach people in and through the media. I firmly believe that I […]

Father Juan Pablo Galeano, diocesan priest: In Christ I can do many things

07/03/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

I never imagined anything like Hawaii. When Bishop Larry Silva had recruited me in Colombia, he was looking for priests for the Hispanic ministry in Hawaii. Not knowing English, I thought the only thing I needed to do was to say Mass in Spanish. When I arrived at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kailua-Kona, […]
