On Dec. 10, the diocesan prison ministry hosted its annual “Star Light, Star Bright” Christmas party for inmates and their families at the Women’s Community Correctional Center in Kailua. The day included games and activities such as Christmas card decorating.

Bishop Larry Silva ordained Sacred Hearts Brother Jeremy Sabugo a “transitional deacon” during a Dec. 8 liturgy at St. Patrick Church in Kaimuki. As a deacon, Brother Sabugo will now be able to preach and assist at the altar during Mass, meanwhile completing his final formation steps toward priesthood.
Chaminade University picks lay woman as president
Chaminade University’s board of regents announced Dec. 8 the selection of Lynn M. Babington to serve as the school’s tenth president. She begins Aug. 1, 2017, succeeding Marianist Brother Bernard Ploeger, who has held the post since 2009.
Traveling icon focus of Marianists’ 200th anniversary
For 18 months, ending on Jan. 22, 2018, the Society of Mary (Marianists) and the Daughters of Mary Immaculate (Marianist Sisters) are celebrating the bicentennial of their foundations around the world.
