While many people believe in the importance of prayer, many find its daily practice challenging. The Newman Center is offering a retreat in November to enliven and strengthen your prayer life.
Jesuit Father Richard Hauser of Creighton University will give the day-long retreat “Developing a Vibrant Prayer Life,” 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m., Nov. 14, at the Newman Center at the University of Hawaii-Manoa.
The presenter will give special emphasis on the role of the Holy Spirit in Christian spirituality and in personal prayer. His topics will include orientation to contemporary spirituality; the role of prayer in Christian living; practical methods including scriptural prayer, centering prayer and mantra prayer; difficulties met in trying to pray; and growth in prayer.
Father Hauser writes: “Nothing will change your life more meaningfully than developing a vibrant and consistent prayer life.”
The retreat costs $30 and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and a copy of Father Hauser’s book “In His Spirit” which participants are encouraged to read in preparation for the retreat. A copy will be provided upon payment for the retreat. Add $3 for the book to be mailed to you. For more information and to register, contact Lynn Graybeal at nlgraybeal@gmail.com.
Father Hauser has been at Creighton University in Omaha since 1972. He is currently professor emeritus of theology, assistant to the president for mission and associate director of the Master’s Program in Christian Spirituality.
