Chaminade University of Honolulu earned two gold stars last month with special recognition from two different organizations.
The college matching platform College Raptor Inc. named Chaminade as the best “hidden gem institution” in the state, and BestColleges.com gave it the highest ranking of “military friendly colleges” in Hawaii.
Hidden gems are defined as high-caliber colleges and universities with fewer than 5,000 applicants per year but an enrollment greater than 1,000. Only one is picked per state. According to College Raptor, the list “calls attention to institutions which may be overlooked by many students but stand out in terms of academic rigor and student success.”
BestColleges.com ranked Chaminade as number 19 of its national Top 45 Military Friendly Colleges. Only two other Hawaii colleges were listed: Hawaii Pacific University at 22 and the University of Hawaii — Honolulu Community College at 36. Colleges were judged by their online opportunities, their military-friendliness and their ability to meet the needs of military students.
With a student-to-faculty ratio of 11 to 1, Chaminade is known for academically rigorous classes in which faculty are readily available to ensure the success of its students.
The school has supported the educational goals of service members since 1967. It offers classes on Oahu military bases to military personnel, their family members and civilians, as well as online courses. Classes on base are open to military personnel, their family members and civilians.
