Quote
“We all have a responsibility to give the best that we have, and the best that we have is the faith. Give it to them, but give it to them through your example.”
| Pope Francis, who welcomed dozens of school children to his morning Mass Nov. 14 in the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae. The pope’s homily combined dialogue with the kids and an admonition to their parents and teachers. (Catholic News Service)

- Favorite Scripture quote: John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that whoever believes in him, might not perish, but might have eternal life.”
- Saint: My confirmation saint, St. Fina (Serafina). She spent six years suffering with her disease on a wooden plank because she wanted to suffer with patience like our Lord Jesus did on the cross. I chose her because of her courage in her suffering and wanted that type of courage to endure despite the trials.

Strong body, strong spirit
Salvador Lara Puente was a strong and faithful young man who grew up in Durango, Mexico, in the early 20th century. As a child Salvador’s religious and filial piety was clear – he cared deeply for his widowed mother as well as other activities like sports and his mining job.
Salvador also was a member of the militant movement Catholic Action of Mexican Youth. It was his involvement in this group that ultimately led to his murder in 1926 at age 21, although Salvador approached his death with acceptance and peace. He responded “Here I am” to soldiers who had come to round up him and his cohorts, and when he found out that his pastor and a friend had been shot, he began to pray quietly until his death by gunshot.
Salvador was canonized along with other Mexican Catholic martyrs in 2000 by Pope John Paul II. (vatican.va)
