Planned Parenthood move approved
“We are delighted that they’ve decided to move elsewhere,” diocesan attorney Jack Dwyer said of reports that Hawaii Planned Parenthood was leaving 1184 Bishop Street for new offices in the Ala Moana Pacific Center around Sept. 1.
The State Health Planning and Development (department) approved Planned Parenthood’s request to move to the highrise on the mauka edge of the Ala Moana Center, but Planned Parenthood has not commented yet on this latest development in a two-year-old controversy.
“We are hoping and praying that they actually move out,” said Dwyer.
The Diocese of Honolulu has been battling Planned Parenthood ever since it proposed doing abortions at its present offices on the 12th floor of a building which sits on diocesan land next to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace.

The rosary: An endearing prayer full of enduring riches
Every Thursday evening, about 30 young adults meet for Bible study at the home of Teo and Mason Matsuda in Ewa Beach. They typically begin sitting cross-legged on the floor and praying the rosary.
When Teo and her husband first introduced the rosary at the group, the students were not exactly enthusiastic. But they soon became so accustomed to opening the evening with the ancient prayer that if she tried to change the routine to accommodate a guest speaker or special event, the young adults would invariably object.
“We are creatures of habit,” she said. “When we took it away, we realized they really do enjoy the rosary.” It’s an appropriate lesson regarding a prayer based on rhythmic repetition.
