A second family from Mililani has been selected as Hawaii’s Family of the Month by the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus.
U.S. Army First Sgt. Dallas Kempo and his wife, Kathleen, along with their sons Connor (age 9) and Derek (nine months), are members of the Main Post Chapel at Schofield Barracks — formally called the Saints Damien and Marianne Military Catholic Community. They were selected as Hawaii’s Family of the Month for January by the Supreme Council.
Dallas Kempo is the roundtable coordinator for the Main Post Chapel’s Knights, who fall under Council 14663 at St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani.
Every month a committee with the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council selects a family which is placed in the running to become the Knights’ international Family of the Year. The winner gets to attend and be recognized at the annual Supreme Convention.
The Kempo family is now in that running.
Their faith and dedication to ministry led to their selection.
In addition to his duties as a father, service member and Knight, Dallas Kempo also serves at the Main Post Chapel as the ministry lead for the extraordinary ministers of holy Communion and as the schedule-coordinator for the ushers and basket collectors.
On top of the hard work that comes with managing a home, Kathleen Kempo also is a leader in the faith community. She is the lector coordinator, serves as an extraordinary minister of holy Communion and is a member of the Catholic Women of the Chapel group at MPC.
In addition, Connor Kempo is an altar server and sings in the children’s choir.
The Kempo family will be receiving a Holy Family gift as part of the award.
This is the second time a family from the Knights of Columbus Council in Mililani has been recognized as Family of the Month. The Morris family — Kacie, John and children Finn and Vivienne — were honored last September.
