One of the leading singers and songwriters in contemporary Catholic music is coming to Hawaii.
Sarah Hart will be performing at St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani on April 12. On top of writing and singing music she has been a retreat author and a public speaker throughout her 20-year career.
Hart has performed at conventions and events around the world, including at St. Peter’s Square for Pope Francis in 2013. She has produced music with Amy Grant, Celtic Woman, Matt Maher, Laura Story, Audrey Assad, and The Newsboys, and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2011 for her work on the song “Better Than a Hallelujah,” which was performed by Grant.
Now she is preparing to come to Hawaii for the first time in about 15 years.
“I’m excited about meeting some amazing people at the concert,” said Hart through an email. “I’m also very excited to enjoy the weather and some of the sights with my husband, who is able to come with me this trip. We don’t get much time together because of our schedules, so this is an absolute treat for us.”
Hart said she also loves the “laid-back nature of Hawaii.” She said there’s a certain relaxation that settles your soul the moment you step on Hawaiian soil.
When it comes to sharing her music, she said she hopes that it gives people whatever they need at that moment.
“If the music can serve in bringing them a little closer to understanding how loved they are by God, that gives me the greatest joy.”
Music to Hart is more than a career; it’s a way of life, like her faith. “Music and faith are so intersected for me; it’s impossible to separate one from the other,” she said.
“I don’t know that it’s so much how it feeds my soul; rather it IS part of my soul, the catalyst for expressing my faith. I think that it’s just the gift that I’ve been given to share the love of God, and I can’t imagine what my journey would be like without it.”
Hart shared some words of encouragement for other music artists.
“Be honest. So many people told me that early on. Be authentically who YOU are in your writing and artistry, and don’t try to imitate other artists,” she said.
People interested in attending the concert can purchase tickets, which are $35, at stjohnmililani.org.
