Show your support for our vowed religious sisters, brothers, priests, hermits and consecrated virgins as the diocese celebrates the World Day for Consecrated Life, Saturday, Feb. 17, with a Mass at 1 p.m. in the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Honolulu. Msgr. Gary Secor will preside.
Light refreshments will be served after the Mass in the parish hall.
Worldwide observance of the day is Feb. 2. It was originally set to be celebrated in Hawaii on Saturday, Feb. 3, but was rescheduled to accommodate the funeral that day for Deacon Stephen Kula.
St. John Paul II instituted the day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life in 1997. The celebration is traditionally attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, Feb. 2.
This feast is also known as Candlemas Day, the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ the light of the world. So too, are those in consecrated life called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples.
