My Samoan experience
Two Daughters of St. Paul embark on an apostolic adventure to the South Pacific
Talofa! From Samoa!
Last month, from April 14 to 26, fellow Daughter of St. Paul, Sister Hosea Marie, and I visited the cradle of Polynesia (at least that’s what the Samoans call their home).
Landing in Samoa, I somehow felt I had just entered another world.

Clergy cartography
Sixty-six parishes. Nine vicariates. Eight Hawaiian islands. Dozens of priests from several different dioceses and religious orders. Father Manny Hewe, the diocesan Vicar for Clergy, crafted a special picture board for the Priests’ Convocation. The board shows at which parish each priest is serving. Clergy photos are color-coded to denote whether they are from religious order (represented by red, a color of “sacrifice”), the local diocese (green, symbolizing “stability” and connectedness to the land), or an outside diocese (colored orange, denoting a “spice” they add to Hawaii).
More than 100 of Hawaii’s active and retired priests spent a week at Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu gathering for fellowship, prayer and personal development sessions during the diocese’s annual Priests’ Convocation, May 13-17.
