The ordination of seminarian Ese’ese “Ace” Tui to the transitional diaconate previously scheduled for May 15 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ewa Beach has been postponed due to the limitations imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, Bishop Larry Silva announced May 2.
“After careful re-consideration of the lockdown situation we are currently experiencing, Seminarian Ace Tui asked if his ordination to the diaconate, scheduled for May 15, could be postponed to a time when more people would be able to attend,” the bishop said.
The bishop agreed to the postponement “to a yet-to-be-determined date, perhaps in June.”
Normally, local ordinations are scheduled at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa on the closing day of the annual May convocation of priests to make it convenient for Neighbor Island clergy to attend.
With the convocation canceled this year, the ordination had been moved to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Tui’s home parish.
