Just a reminder: Bishop Larry Silva has designated Dec. 9 this year as a holy day of obligation in the Diocese of Honolulu.
That’s the day assigned for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which normally falls on Dec. 8.
However, this year, Dec. 8 is the Second Sunday of Advent, which takes precedence.
Catholics in Hawaii are required to attend Mass on Dec. 9.
Ordinarily, this convergence of feasts would mean the Immaculate Conception would not be a day of obligation. However, as the bishop said last month in his Official Notices, the diocese has only two days of obligation, the other being Christmas, and did not want to cancel the only other one.
