Math refresher course for freshmen was a ‘Happening’
Teen teachers, custom tapes, and lots of individual attention highlighted what can generally be a boring experience for young men — a review of elementary school math and the introduction of high school algebra.
The course, offered during summer and required of all incoming freshmen at St. Louis, was “embellished” this year with the addition of four teenage teachers, intensive use of instructional television facilities and specially created video tapes. …

The exhumation of Damien’s remains
On April 15, after a solemn prayer service and in the presence of numerous witnesses, Father Edward Gofinet, the vicar general of the Archdiocese of Mailnes-Brussels, removed one of the dozen labeled zinc boxes of Damien’s remains — the one containing his right hand — and place it in a Hawaii-made koa reliquary.
The reliquary will remain in Louvain until the rescheduled beatification which will probably take place sometime next spring, though no official date has been set. …
The reliquary will eventually be reinterred at Kalawao, Molokai.

Varez does it again
Long before the date was set for the canonization of Father Damien, well-known local artist Dietrich Varez was working on designs for a new Reyn Spooner aloha shirt to commemorate the day.
“I was chomping at the bit to make some new Damien print,” Varez said. “I thought, ‘It is really going to happen in my life time.’ There can be no more inspiration than that.”
