“Remembering the Past and Rejoicing the Present,” an evening of worship and praise in song, 6-8 p.m., Aug. 19, will kick off the 90th anniversary of Our Lady of Sorrows “Mission” Church in Wahiawa.
The Rejoice Choir, under the direction of Jorell Nacapuy, will feature songs of the past and present. The parish youth ministry will perform a skit, and the Pursuit Choir will share their songs of praise.
All are welcome to join the celebration at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 1403-A California Ave., Wahiawa. The doors open at 6 p.m., program begins at 6:30 pm. and light refreshments will follow from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
All love offerings will benefit Our Lady of Sorrows Forward In Faith Campaign.
Using a church trucked over from the Ewa plantation by Sacred Hearts Father Charles Windels, Our Lady of Sorrows was first established in 1928 in Wahiawa as a mission of St. Michael, Waialua.
It was elevated to parish status in 1939 under Sacred Hearts Father Peter Van Megan.
The present church and rectory were dedicated in 1959.
The parish will celebrate its 90th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 16.
