Saint Patrick Holy Name Society (SPHNS) promotes the spiritual welfare of St. Patrick Parish, Kaimuki, and the community. We are committed to helping members grow in holiness through devotion to the most Holy Name of Jesus. We are called to be leaders in the evangelization mission of the church and to make perpetual acts of reverence and love for our Lord and Savior.
Members lead their families, friends and the community to Christ Jesus by their acts of charity and piety. Functions of SPHNS members include, but are not limited to, organizing fundraising activities to support pro-life clinics, raising money for scholarships, supporting and overseeing Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts Troop 123, picking and preparing leaves for Palm Sunday for the church and for the Newman Center at the University of Hawaii-Manoa.
SPHNS is a big ohana. We are in close contact especially with the senior members who may need help. We give communion to the homebound and the sick. We also visit members who might need spiritual or emotional support.
SPHNS activities include retreats, leading the St. Patrick congregation in prayer for special events such as Divine Mercy, the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus, Immaculate Heart Rosary and other spiritual work assigned by the church. We also have luncheons on Parents’ Day and Christmas day which is a lot of fun, with activities and games, prizes and singing.
The Holy Name Society Mass is every second Sunday of the month at 6:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. After Mass, members gather for a short meeting with our spiritual director in the conference room.
SPHNS is not a time-consuming organization. Our meeting is only once a month. But the reward is overwhelmingly satisfying, spiritually and mentally. Won’t you please consider joining? Contact David Dang, president 735-2297, hopdang@yahoo.com, or Vicki Lai, secretary, 375-3230, Lai006@hawaii.rr.com.
