La Salette Father Arlan Intal and Marina Pascua, pastor and parishioner of St. Raphael Church, Koloa, Kauai, display their parish’s Historic Hawaii Foundation’s 2017 Preservation Award. The parish received the honor, the foundation’s highest recognition of preservation projects that perpetuate, rehabilitate, restore or interpret the state’s architectural, archaeological and cultural heritage, at its 43rd annual awards ceremony May 19. This special recognition celebrates the rich history of the kamaaina companies, organizations and institutions that are an important part of the culture of the Islands. The Historic Hawaii Foundation presented the preservation award to St. Raphael Church in recognition of its 175th year anniversary, 1841-2016. Winners are selected by a committee of professionals in architecture, history, planning and media.
