St. Francis Healthcare System recently made changes to its management team to meet the growing needs of the organization and the community. Dr. Tariq “Terry” Al-Mutawa has been promoted to chief medical officer; Holly Davis has been named executive director of St. Francis Hospice; and Gary Simon has been appointed director of corporate affairs and advocacy.
Dr. Al-Mutawa’s scope of services will expand to include clinical oversight of services for seniors and caregivers as the development of St. Francis Kupuna Village comes to full fruition. He will also continue to be involved with hospice care.
Dr. Al-Mutawa served as a medical director for St. Francis Hospice from 2012 through 2014. He returned to that job in June 2016. He has more than a decade of hospice care experience from several organizations in Phoenix, Arizona. He is board certified in hospice and palliative care as well as internal medicine. Before focusing on hospice care, he co-founded Desert Vista Medical Associates, an internal medicine-based group.
Dr. Al-Mutawa received a bachelor of science degree in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Arizona and a medical degree from the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine.
Holly Davis, an advanced practice nurse practitioner, has more than a decade of hospice and palliative care experience. Before joining St. Francis, she was executive director of Gentiva Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee. She also served in various medical institutions in Florida, New York and Virginia. She worked in hospice organizations in Florida and Maryland.
Davis has a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a master of science degree in palliative nursing from Daemen College in Amherst, New York. She is co-chairwoman of the advisory council for the Children’s Project on Palliative/Hospice Services of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
Gary Simon has been with St. Francis for more than 25 years joining in 1990 as the office manager for St. Francis Hospice. He was named hospice business manager in 1995, promoted to administrative director in 2004, and appointed manager of the St. Francis Lifeline program in 2008. He had been executive director of St. Francis Hospice since 2010 while also serving as director of corporate affairs from 2013 to 2014.
Simon currently serves as chairman of the legislative committee for the Policy Advisory Board for Elder Affairs of the Executive Office on Aging, is president of the Hawaii Family Caregiver Coalition, and a member of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias State Plan Collaborative. In addition, Simon is a member the Hawaii Catholic Conference and other community boards and organizations.
Simon holds a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Hawaii-Manoa.
