St. Ann Church and Model Schools in Kaneohe kicked off their series of six monthly 175th anniversary celebrations on May 13 with a Living Rosary.
The devotion, which coincides with the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, had representatives from the school and parish organizations and ministries forming the beads of the rosary. As each rosary prayer was recited, a candle held by each “living bead” was lit, bringing the rosary to life.
Our Lady of Fatima is one of them many titles of the Blessed Mother Mary, the daughter of the parish patron saint and namesake, Saint Ann.
The parish and school will have five other monthly celebrations through October inspired by two fundamental principles to their Catholic identity: prayer and fellowship.
- June 18: 175th Taste of St. Ann and Anniversary Cookbook Launch. A returning event offering delicious tastes from parish chefs and neighboring restaurants. This celebration of food and fellowship will also launch the 175th Anniversary St. Ann’s Cookbook.
- July 22: Feast of St. Ann Prayer and Music Concert. Sacred music and hymns, important expressions of prayer, will be presented in an intimate concert of solo and group performances, celebrated in a unique and contemporary expression.
- Aug. 26: 175th Anniversary Book and Coin Launch. A stroll back in time reflecting on the parish’s 175 years as an epicenter for Catholic evangelism and education on Oahu’s windward side. To be released: St. Ann’s 175th anniversary publication and commemorative coin.
- Sept. 2: Conclusion of 175 hours of Perpetual Adoration and Benediction. The faithful will have an opportunity to devote an hour or more in adoration to the Lord, culminating with a total of 175 hours or more and concluding with Benediction.
- Oct. 15: 175th Anniversary and Celebration Luau. In typical Hawaiian fashion, the parish concludes its celebration series with a grand feast — great food, wonderful entertainment and fellowship worthy of 175 years. Mark this date. You do not want to miss this celebration.
