IN LITTLE WAYS
CHORUS
Back, back to the box,
Got to get on my knees.
Back, back, back to the box,
Father, won’t you please
Let me in, forgive my sin
And set my sad soul free.
Weekly Mass is a duty
I know I should fulfill,
But Sunday morning was cold and wet,
And I sort of had the chills.
I would’ve gone later on,
But the Chargers were playing the Bills.
Monday’s not my favorite day;
I got to work kind of late.
I’d spent too much of Sunday night
Googling a fantasy date.
I blamed my mistakes on someone else
When my bosses had to wait.
Tuesday I went out for a few
With the guys from the second floor.
I told my sweetie I had to work late.
I swear I won’t lie anymore.
I guess — I know — I drank too much
‘Cuz I dinged the passenger door.
Wednesday is our pizza night.
Am I a glutton if I always pig out?
My wife is worried I’m gonna get
Diabetes, a stroke or gout.
When she starts to nag, I must admit,
I sometimes pound and shout.
My wife is right in back of me;
She’s got a few things to say.
She gets so wrapped up in kids
And work, she often forgets to pray.
She’s run up a bill at Target
I’m not sure we can pay.
Saturday is date night,
And my wife was looking fine.
e maybe strutted a little too much;
She knows the male mind.
Say, should she flirt with the waiter
Every time we go out to dine?
Our kids are hardly angels.
Where did the baby learn to swear?
Brother is sometimes a bully,
And Sister doesn’t always play fair.
We’d all of us behave better
If we’d kept up family prayer.
We make a decent living.
God’s met all our basic needs.
But between TV and the internet,
Envy grows like weeds.
We’re always buying the latest toy
When there are hungry folks to feed.
God gave us hearty voices
His praises to proclaim,
But we’ve used our tongues
For cruelty and misused his holy name.
Memories of spite and gossip
Now fill us all with shame.
So here we are on Saturday.
We don’t feel so proud anymore.
We’re dying for forgiveness
And the grace to sin no more.
We really need God’s mercy.
Please open that confessional door.
Back, back, back to the box …
