Special to the Herald

The Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary of Unit 419 marked one year since they were established in the Diocese of Honolulu with a special Mass Sept. 12 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Honolulu.

St. Theresa’s pastor, Father Manny Hewe, celebrated the Mass and was joined by Father Mark Bristol, chaplain for the U.S. Navy, and Blessed Sacrament Father Bob Stark. All three priests are now also Knights with Unit 419.

Grand Knight Deacon Raymond Lamb and Grand Lady Tyra Lamb have grown the fraternal organization to more than 50 members, including the addition of two branches for youth — Junior Knights and Junior Daughters — in May 2026.

Father Hewe praised Unit 419’s extraordinary outreach work in its first year. Before Mass ended, Deacon Lamb was presented with the Knights of Peter Claver’s national expansion award for 2026, in recognition of the establishment of Hawaii’s first KPC unit.

Knight Deacon Marlowe Sabater was also honored, receiving the prestigious 2026 national humanitarian of the year award for his steadfast efforts with the Apostleship of the Sea-Hawaii Ministry, for which he is the co-coordinator at St. Theresa

The Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary is open to all adults from all parishes. One of the newest Knights, for example, lives on Maui and plans to expand the order’s presence across the state.
