Special to the Herald
The Diocesan Congress of Filipino Catholic Clubs in Hawaii will hold its 76th annual convention Nov. 6-8 at the Kauai Beach Resort in Lihue.
All four island councils of Filipino Catholic clubs — Kauai, Oahu, Maui and Hawaii island — together with family and friends will experience a renewal and strengthening of our Catholic faith.
The theme of the convention is “One Ohana in Christ: 200 years of Faith and Unity.”
The diocesan congress is grateful to Msgr. Osmundo A. Calip who came to Hawaii from the Philippines and started the first Filipino Catholic Club in Kekaha, Kauai, in 1950.
Msgr. Calip went on to establish Filipino Catholic clubs across the diocese.
The various clubs are now under the guidance of the Diocesan Congress of Filipino Catholic Clubs of Hawaii, which follows the mission statement: “Through our willingness to serve and live Christ’s call, we join together as a Christian family to uphold and foster culture and traditions to work and develop a meaningful organization by sharing our common hopes and concerns for ourselves and others.”
Amy Melchor-Tamayo is this year’s DCFCC president and John Constantino is the convention chairman. The Kauai Council of Filipino Catholic Clubs convention committee has worked diligently to make this convention a spirit-filled one for all.
The three days of activities will include visits to all five Kauai parishes — St. Theresa, St. Raphael, Holy Cross, St. Catherine of Alexandria and Immaculate Conception. Masses will also be celebrated during the convention.
Speakers will share their insights, and we are also proud to welcome both Bishop Michael T.T. Castori, SJ, and Bishop Emeritus Larry Silva. A banquet will be held Nov. 7 at the Kauai Beach Resort; we will have our bishops as speakers, lots of entertainment, food and fellowship among the delegates.
The convention will be a celebration of 200 years of faith and unity as one ohana in Christ.
It is a time to give thanks to the generations that kept our faith alive and pray that God continues to unite us to strengthen our faith and bless the generations to come.
