Stewardship means respecting life, dignity of human person

One of the most fundamental truths of the Catholic faith is that every human life has value and dignity. From the moment of conception until natural death, each person is created in the image and likeness of God and is loved by him.

This belief forms the foundation of the Church’s respect for human life and shapes the way Catholics are called to view themselves and others.

In a world that often measures worth by productivity, success, appearance or achievement, the Church offers a different perspective. Human dignity does not depend on what a person can do, possess or accomplish. It comes from God alone.

Every life is a gift, and every person has inherent value because they are created by him.

Stewardship begins with recognizing God’s gifts and responding to them with gratitude. Among the greatest gifts God gives is human life itself. Because life is a gift, we are called to cherish, protect and respect it at every stage and in every circumstance.

This understanding influences how we treat others. Stewardship is not limited to managing resources or serving in parish ministries. It also shapes how we view and interact with the people God places in our lives. Respect for life calls us to recognize the dignity of the unborn, the elderly, the sick, the disabled, the poor and every person we encounter.

The Church’s commitment to life extends beyond a single issue. It reflects a broader belief that every human being deserves love, respect and care. As stewards, we are called to promote a culture that values people not for what they contribute but for who they are as children of God.

Living this commitment often involves simple actions. Offering support to a struggling family, visiting someone who is isolated, assisting those facing difficult circumstances, and treating others with kindness and compassion all help affirm the dignity of human life.

These acts become tangible expressions of stewardship and Christian love.

Respecting life also begins with gratitude for our own lives. Recognizing that we are created by God and entrusted with unique gifts helps us understand our responsibility to use those gifts for His glory and the good of others.

The Respect Life message celebrated during October provides an opportunity to reflect on these important truths. It reminds us that every person matters to God and that each life has purpose and meaning.

As Christian stewards, we are called to recognize the gift of human life and respond with gratitude, compassion and respect. By honoring the dignity of every person, we help build a culture rooted in God’s love and bear witness to the truth that every life is a gift.
