The Hawaii Catholic Engaged Encounter community gathered at St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani Sept. 5 to celebrate the ministry’s 50th year of service in the isles. The celebration began with Mass concelebrated by Bishop Emeritus Larry Silva, Msgr. Gary Secor, Father Anthony Rapozo and Father Gregorio Honorio. The festivities continued with dinner and games in the parish’s One Community Center. It was nice to see friendly faces from the first Engaged Encounter weekend in 1976 to the most recent Oahu retreat in July 2026. (Courtesy Lourdes and David Tupper)
