The episcopal ordination and installation of Jesuit Father Michael T.T. Castori as the sixth bishop of Honolulu will bring a great deal of joy and celebration when the liturgy takes place July 28 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Honolulu.
The Mass, as well as evening vespers the day before, will also bring a great deal of traffic to the area around the co-cathedral, which is located on North School Street, a busy section of the Kalihi-Palama neighborhood.
While North School Street will not be closed for the July 27 and July 28 events, the community is warned that traffic will be heavy and hectic as shuttles from outside parking areas as well as personal vehicles access the co-cathedral.
Honolulu police officers will be on hand, in addition to many parish volunteers who will drive the shuttles and escort other vehicles.
The busiest times will be:
- Monday, July 27: 3-6 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. The vespers service begins at 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 28: 7-10 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. The liturgy begins at 10 a.m.
Attendance at the episcopal ordination/installation Mass and the evening vespers — during which Father Castori will make the canonically required profession of faith and oath of fidelity to Pope Leo XIV — is extremely limited.
