Bishop’s announcements and appointments
- Very Rev. Lane Akiona, SS.CC., provincial superior of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, U.S. Province, has proposed, and Bishop Silva has approved, the appointment of Rev. Micheal Kumar, SS.CC., as pastor of St. Ann Church, Kaneohe, effective June 15, 2026. He replaces Rev. Patrick Tukidia, SS.CC., who is being assigned outside the Diocese of Honolulu.
- Rev. William Kunisch II has been appointed as vicar forane of the Maui-Lanai Vicariate. He replaces Msgr. Terrence Watanabe, who is retiring, and will complete Msgr. Watanabe’s term: July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. Father Kunisch remains the pastor of St. Theresa Church, Kihei.
- The following have been appointed as members of the diocesan Pastoral Council for a three-year term from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2029:
- Andrew Ancheta, representing the East Honolulu Vicariate
- Ropati Liua, representing the West Honolulu Vicariate
- Deacon John Thomas, representing the deacon community
- The diocesan offices will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.
