St. Patrick Church was filled with joy April 19 as Sacred Hearts Brother Soane Siua took a step closer to becoming a priest.

Bishop Larry Silva presided over now-Deacon Siua’s ordination to the transitional diaconate in the Kaimuki parish, which was witnessed by many friends, family and faithful. Clergy and religious women and men from the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary were also present, including Father Lane Akiona, pastor of St. Augustine by-the-Sea Church in Waikiki and superior of the congregation’s U.S. province.

During the rite of ordination, Brother Siua lay prostrate as Bishop Silva prayed over him. After Mass, Deacon Siua paused for a photo (below) with St. Patrick’s pastor, Sacred Hearts Father Lusius Nimu, left, Bishop Silva and Father Akiona.

Deacon Siua has returned to the U.S. province’s formation house in Suva, Fiji, for his final semester as a seminarian. He will be ordained a priest in December in the Diocese of Brownsville, Texas.
