Christ the King Church in Kahului, Maui, held its annual bazaar Oct. 25, and it was a rousing success. Proceeds will help defray the cost of repaving the church parking lot.
October was the month of the holy rosary. Before each weekend Mass, members of the Knights of Columbus and the Eucharistic Women of the Cross led parishioners in prayer. The Our Lady of Manaoag prayer group led by Nina Balasan and Victoria Cachola visited different homes every night. A rosary was also prayed by the grotto, especially for the unborn.
The Eucharistic Women of the Cross held a miracle thanksgiving and birthday celebration for Deacon Cornelio Pulido and Mark Felipe. Both were in the shadow of death at one point, but with God’s grace and the faith of their families and friends they are still with us today. They shared their testimonies on their miraculous healing with the gathering.
On Nov. 23, Bishop Larry Silva celebrated Mass to mark the feast of Christ the King, in conjunction with the conclusion of the Diocesan Congress of Filipino Catholic Clubs convention. The first Filipino Catholic Club was formed by the late Msgr. Osmundo Calip of the Philippines to evangelize immigrants (sakadas) so they could continue their Catholic faith practices in Hawaii.
Finally, the Life Teen youth ministry is taking shape. Parent leaders are Kat Virgino-Ortogero, Geraldine Chua, Judith Hook and Rose Inamasu. (Lucy Peros, photo courtesy Audie Pascual)
