One of the leaders at the Marianist Center of Hawaii has been called to serve in an even bigger role.

Brother Edward Violett, vice president of the Marianist Center, will become the provincial for the Marianist Province of the United States, which comprises some 200 brothers and priests who serve across the country and includes communities overseas. He will relocate to St. Louis, Missouri, when his five-year term begins July 1.

The Marianist Center of Hawaii is located on the shared campus of Chaminade University of Honolulu and Saint Louis School in Kaimuki. Brother Violett worked with leadership at both schools on a number of projects, from road repair to landscaping to the expansion of the Mystical Rose Oratory pavilion.

“The Marianist Brothers on Kalaepohaku congratulate one of our own, Bro. Ed Violett,” Marianist Father Martin Solma, rector and vice president of mission at Chaminade, said in a Nov. 10 press release. “Although we will miss him in our Marianist community and at the Marianist Center of Hawaii, with his many organizational and leadership skills we can only fully support him in this new call to service. We pledge to him our prayers and fraternal best wishes.”

Brother Violett was born in Agana, Guam, and raised in El Paso, Texas; he entered the Society of Mary in 1982. He has served in a wide variety of U.S. and international roles, including posts in Rome and India and leadership positions at universities in Texas and Louisiana.
