To Parishioners of the Diocese of Honolulu
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On May 2, 2025, I had the privilege of giving thanks to God for fifty years of priesthood. It has been a wonderful privilege to serve the people of the Diocese of Oakland (for 30 years) and the Diocese of Honolulu (as Bishop for 20 years), and I have been richly blessed with so many saints who have inspired me – YOU!
I want to publicly thank all those who worked so hard to make my Golden Jubilee Celebrations such memorable events – not only at the main event on May 2, but also on the Islands of Kauai, Hawaii (in two venues!), and Maui-Lanai. I thank God for all of you who have honored me with your participation, your planning, your prayers and the many gifts you gave me.
As you know, I have designated all monetary gifts I received on this momentous occasion to the Cathedral Renewal Fund, so that we can complete the renovation of our beautiful and historic Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. I am happy to report that your generosity brought in $194,424.30. Mahalo nui loa for honoring me by helping me with this important project for our diocese!
I pray that many other men will be inspired to serve the Lord in the priesthood. If they are called, I can assure you, they will find great joy!
