On Sept. 10, clergy, members, families and friends of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Louis Maigret Assembly 1577, the first fourth-degree assembly chartered in Hawaii, gathered at Mary, Star of the Sea Church in Waialae-Kahala for the assembly’s annual awards night.
The evening began with a prayer over a catered dinner. After the meal, the assembly members honored their faithful friar — Father Alfred Omar Guerrero, the Diocese of Honolulu’s vocations director and director of the Office of Worship — for his spiritual guidance, with a beautiful seven sorrows rosary and a booklet of Marian prayers.
In remembrance of the late and beloved past faithful navigator and former president Chuck Furr, faithful admiral and master of ceremonies Robert Camilleri presented a memorial plaque to former faithful captain and Knight Mike DeWitt in recognition of his exemplary service to the assembly.
The final award of the night was the annual Former Master Victor M. Abbatiello Memorial Cup. The highest award given by the assembly honors a knight who best exemplifies Abbatiello’s sterling qualities of honor, service courage and patriotism during the fraternal year.
The Memorial Cup was awarded by faithful navigator Larry Gonzales to treasurer and color corps commander Mario Tadeo, in recognition of his dedicated service to the assembly while simultaneously holding two demanding positions and excelling at both.
Fourth-degree District Master Patrick Guzman and his wife, Joyce, congratulated members of the Bishop Louis Maigret Assembly for a successful fraternal year.
The evening ended with the recitation of the prayer for the canonization of Blessed Michael J. McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus, and the singing of the national anthem.
