Christ the King Church in Kahului hosted the Maui-Lanai Vicariate’s Eucharistic procession on June 21.

Msgr. Terry Watanabe, pastor of St. Anthony Church in Wailuku, was the main celebrant at Mass; most of the priests and deacons from parishes across the vicariate were co-celebrants. Father William Kunisch of St. Theresa Church in Kihei gave the homily.

The day also included adoration and benediction, and refreshments were served afterward.

A farewell party was held for Father Ese’ese “Ace” Tui on June 27. The Eucharistic Women of the Cross ministry graced the party by dancing to “My Island Maui.” Father Tui also did a Samoan dance enjoyed by about 500 party attendees.

Christ the King had the privilege of being the first church on Maui to host the traveling Jubilee cross from July 21-26. Daily activities were planned by different church ministries and groups.

It was truly a time for parishioners to focus on reconciliation with God and others, forgiveness, pilgrimage and renewal of faith. The cross symbolizes God’s love and the hope found in Jesus’ sacrifice.

When it was time to transport the cross to St. Ann Church in Waihee, Christ the King parishioners formed a procession of cars to St. Ann.

Aug. 1 marked the inauguration of Mass on the first Friday of the month, in addition to adoration and benediction. From now on, there will be Mass on the first Friday of each month.

In another first, Aug. 20 saw the parish’s first healing Mass, which subsequently will be held every third Wednesday of each month.
