Catholic Charities Hawaii has tapped an experienced leader in protecting vulnerable populations to serve as its chief operating officer, overseeing the nonprofit organization’s day-to-day operations.
Anh Nguyen will take over the role once held by Tina Andrade, who is now Catholic Charities Hawaii’s president and CEO.
According to an Aug. 14 press release, Nguyen has more than two decades of experience in humanitarian and development operations. He held leadership roles within the International Organization for Migration across the globe, from the IOM’s headquarters in Switzerland to field offices in Austria and Ukraine.
At the IOM, Nguyen served as chief of mission in Ukraine as well as head of the Migrant Protection and Assistance Division; he also led global initiatives targeting assistance to vulnerable groups, including victims of trafficking.
Until recently, according to the press release, he spearheaded IOM’s global engagement with donors, working to advance the agency’s strategic priorities and long-term impact.
“I am thrilled to join an organization that is committed to serving our most vulnerable throughout our state,” Nguyen, who has family in Hawaii and calls Kauai home, said in the press release. “To be able to align my personal mission to serve the community with CCH’s philosophy of helping those most in need is an opportunity I look forward to.”
Andrade said that Nguyen’s appointment “strengthens our ability to advance our mission — protecting our culture, honoring all who call Hawaii home and protecting our most vulnerable neighbors.”
