St. Elizabeth Church in Aiea hosted its third annual baby shower on May 4 to celebrate life from conception to natural death.
The theme was “Babies are a gift from God and allow a mother and father to become the ‘domestic church.’”
The church teaches that the family is a microcosm of the larger church, reflecting the church’s mission and values of supporting and promoting life. Parents are the first teachers in raising their children in faith formation, spiritual growth and instilling Christian values.
The baby shower concept was initiated by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Respect Life Program to raise awareness of the various organizations within our own communities that assist mothers when and if a need arises.
Most importantly, it highlights the faith aspect of supporting mothers: “The church is here to provide spiritual guidance and all the sacraments for spiritual growth to become a true follower of Christ.”
Recognition of the sacrifice women give in bringing new life into the world is a joyous event to share with our community — a true celebration of new life. St. Elizabeth’s Women’s Apostles for Catechesis Ministry and Good Samaritan Ministry joined forces in putting together a beautiful luncheon for all the guests.
Father Sebastian Soosai, pastor of St. Elizabeth, welcomed and blessed everyone in attendance. The older children were entertained with games and toys while the adults played baby shower games.
All guests went home with diapers, baby wipes, other useful items and big smiles.
Across Oahu in May, baby showers also were held at St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani and at Holy Trinity Church in Kuliouou. Resurrection of the Lord Church in Waipio will hold a baby shower on June 1.
We hope more families will join us and other parishes as they celebrate woman and babies in the upcoming year.
