As the Jubilee Year continues to inspire Catholics across the globe to be pilgrims of hope, the U.S. also remains committed to energizing and moving people to act with its yearslong National Eucharistic Revival mission.
In Hawaii, St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani will join the catechesis by hosting two presentations on “Being a Disciple of Christ: A Eucharistic Mission” on Feb. 26 and 27. Both will begin at 7 p.m.
The guest speaker is Franciscan Sister Alicia Torres, a member of the Franciscans of the Eucharist of Chicago who serves on the executive team for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ National Eucharistic Revival initiative.
Sister Torres is the vocations director for her religious community and works at the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels on Chicago’s West Side. She also was a religion teacher at an inner-city Catholic school.
The Feb. 26 presentation is titled “Encounter Leads to Identity: How Jesus in the Eucharist Reveals Our Identity to Us.” It will focus on how the faithful encounter Jesus, particularly in the Eucharist, and how he reveals to us that we are God’s beloved children.
The evening will also go over teachings including the principle of “imago Dei” (the doctrine that all humans are the “image of God”), baptism, the Incarnation and the paschal mystery.
The Feb. 27 presentation is titled “Every Day Matters: How Eucharistic Living and Mission Go Hand in Hand.” It will cover a range of topics, such as how the way we live has an effect on the kingdom of God; how Eucharistic mission is different from the general concept of mission; and how the Mass is central to Catholic life.
The church teachings in this presentation include the nature of Christian community, different types of love and the works of mercy.
