Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue celebrated its 140th anniversary last month with a special Mass followed by a luncheon and program.
Bishop Larry Silva celebrated the thanksgiving Mass Dec. 8, with La Salette Father Edison Pamintuan, La Salette Father Augustine Uthuppu and Father EJ Resinto concelebrating. They were assisted by Deacon Dave Kane and Deacon Bill Farias.
After Mass, a luncheon attended by more than 200 parishioners was held at Smith’s Family Tropical Garden. Children from the religious education program performed an interpretative dance during the opening prayer. The program included honors for Immaculate Conception’s own “island treasures” — Faye Yoshida, Adelina Pedronan and Tom and Debbie Sategna.
The day of celebration also included recognition of parish couples who have been married more than 60 years: Dennis and Mercy Rego, Sonny and Helen Gerardo, and Thomas and Suzanne Ellis.
