Photo: A celebration of Mary in downtown Honolulu

12/18/2024 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

The solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation in the Diocese of Honolulu, was celebrated statewide Dec. 9 — one day after its usual date on the calendar. The second Sunday of Advent also fell on Dec. 8 this year, and it is deemed more important in the liturgical calendar. At the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in downtown Honolulu, a statue of Mary was adorned with lei during midday Mass Dec. 9 marking the holy day. (Photo courtesy Dann Ebina)
