Kauai-born Sister of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Linda (Frances Joan) Quinones, who served most of her religious life on the mainland, died Oct. 20 in Dubuque, Iowa. She was 83 and in religious life for 64 years.
Sister Quinones served in Seattle as a school secretary, school resource person and parish minister; in San Francisco as a school secretary and librarian; and in Fremont and Union City, California, as a bookkeeper and office manager.
She also worked as a housekeeper in Clinton, Iowa, and Los Gatos, California. She volunteered at a senior center, a hospice and at her home parish of St. Catherine Church in Kapaa, Kauai.
Sister Quinones was born Feb. 28, 1941, on Kauai to Frank and Haruko (Oshima) Quinones. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commonly known as the BVM congregation, on July 31, 1960, from St. Catherine Church. The BVM sisters used to have communities on Kauai and Maui, which generated several local vocations.
Sister Quinones professed first vows on Feb. 2, 1963, and final vows on Feb. 2, 1968.
Sister Quinones was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Frank (Flo), James and Mitchell (Charlene) Quinones; sister Irene (Arnold) Ujimori; and brothers-in-law Peter Ng and Manuel Ang. She is survived by sisters Doris Ng and Beverly Ang, both of Honolulu; nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM.
