The Diocese of Honolulu’s Office of Evangelization and Catechesis is sponsoring a series of workshops that will address “moments of return” and how faithful and church leaders can build upon these times with intentionality, pastoral care and a missionary spirit.
“Making the Most of Moments: Accompaniment and Evangelization Through Moments of Return” is being presented by Paul and Sarah Jarzembowski, who will facilitate discussion of moments of return and the opportunities they present for pastoral leaders, families and churchgoers to reach out to people who only go to church on certain occasions.
Such moments include Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and Easter, but also extend to baptisms, weddings, funerals and other less obvious times.
The workshops are being offered at a time when church attendance and affiliation appear to be declining. Moments of return and month-to-month trends suggest there is more to the story and thus reason for hope.
There are two workshops left in the statewide four-workshop series.
The Jarzembowskis will be at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kailua-Kona on Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Their last presentation is scheduled for Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Stephen Diocesan Center in Kaneohe.
Paul Jarzembowski is the associate director for laity in the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth; he also is the author of two books.
Sarah Jarzembowski is co-host of the “Catholic Leadership Network” podcast, director of marriage and family life at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Crofton, Maryland, and also serves as a facilitator, trainer, mentor and pastoral minister.
