Cathedral basilica will join Global Rosary Relay

05/22/2024 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Special to the Herald

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, on the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 7, will recite the sorrowful mysteries at 11:30 a.m. during the annual Global Rosary Relay.

According to Worldpriest, the lay organization that founded the Global Rosary Relay, the event is a prayer of thanksgiving for the world’s priests that seeks the protection of Mary, mother of all priests, for her sons.

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace will represent the Diocese of Honolulu during its virtual participation in the 24-hour continuous recitation of the mysteries of the rosary. More than 300 cathedrals, shrines and some new churches will take part in this year’s relay; a “spiritual” turn will be passed to Honolulu’s cathedral by the Basilica Nuestra Senora del Pilar in Argentina.

After completion of the sorrowful mysteries the cathedral will pass the turn to the Catedral Basilica de Nuestra Madre in Santisima de la Luz, Mexico, which will recite the joyful mysteries.

We encourage everyone in our diocese to pray the sorrowful mysteries on June 7 for the sanctification of all priests. We especially pray for Bishop Larry Silva and our own religious and diocesan priests for continued strength, good health and thanksgiving for all they do.

People who want to join the prayer can view the cathedral’s livestream, pray with their rosary group or pray personally for the intentions.
