Special to the Herald
Blessed Sacrament Church celebrated its 24th anniversary of Divine Mercy Sunday on April 7 at the 7 a.m. Mass.
This year the Divine Mercy image was bedecked simply with white orchids and red carnations. The simplicity reminds us of the blood and water that are depicted, with Jesus reminding us that the red rays stand for his life-giving gift of the Eucharist and the white rays stand for water, which cleanses our souls and represents both baptism and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Our pastor, Father Steve Nguyen, concluded the solemn Mass with a blessing with the first-class relic of St. Faustina, whose vision of Jesus inspired the creation of the Divine Mercy image, after a beautiful chanting of the Divine Mercy chaplet led by Leka Leaeno, our music director, along with Lei Kondo, Dylan and Diego Serrano, and the choir.
Thanks to Lucy Schlemmer and Maydeen Takahashi, who put the lei around the image.
