Lifelong educator was St. Elizabeth principal for 7 years
Adrian Dominican Sister Maria Caridad Pinuela, who served as principal of St. Elizabeth School in Aiea for seven years, died on Nov. 6 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 86 and in the 67th year of her religious profession: 17 years as a Dominican Sister of Molo, Iloilo City, Philippines, and in her 50th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Maria Caridad was born Guillerma Pinuela in Zarraga, Iloilo, Philippines, to Juan and Mercedes (Sendino) Pinuela.
She spent three years teaching in the Philippines and 10 years at schools in Michigan, Arizona, Hawaii, where she was principal of St. Elizabeth School from 1964 to 1971, and Oakland, California, all prior to entering the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Her ministries as an Adrian Dominican Sister were in schools in Oakland and Hayward, California.
Sister Maria Caridad is survived by her brother, Rogelio Pinuela of Zarraga, Iloilo, Philippines, and her Adrian Dominican Sisters. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.
