Icon dedication

09/13/2023 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

This icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God of Tenderness, was created by Honolulu seminarian transitional deacon Hai Francis Pham to celebrate the 125th Jubilee of St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, California, where he is now studying. The icon, on hardwood measuring 11-by-14-inches, is dedicated to the victims of the Aug. 8 wildfire in Lahaina, Maui. The image will be sold by auction at the school’s anniversary fundraising gala Sept. 16. It depicts the Virgin Mary gazing at baby Jesus while holding him in her left arm, in the style of the “Hodegetria,” representing Mary as the Mother of God. The seminary, which serves 11 dioceses including the Diocese of Honolulu, has 78 men enrolled this year. For more information about St. Patrick’s Seminary and University, go to https://stpsu.edu.
