Photo: Junipero Serra relic

07/18/2023 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Sacred Hearts Sister Jane Francis Leandro kisses a first-class relic of St. Junipero Serra July 5 during the Diocese of Honolulu’s monthly holy hour for vocations at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa. The event recognized the saint’s July 1 feast day and the work of Serra International, an organization named after the Franciscan missionary to California that promotes vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Founded nearly 90 years ago in Seattle by a small group of businessmen, Serra International now has more than 18,000 members in 46 countries. The relic was brought from the mainland to the Islands especially for this holy hour. (Photo courtesy of Dann Ebina)
