The historic King Street Catholic Cemetery has reopened on Saturdays for visitors.
The historic cemetery had mostly been closed since issues with vandalism and people camping out on the property worsened during the COVID-19 shutdown.
Deacon Keith Cabiles, chancellor and columbarium liaison for the Diocese of Honolulu, said the cemetery reopened on Saturdays as of the beginning of July. Gates are open are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the cemetery at 839 South King Street, Honolulu.
King Street Cemetery is the resting place for many of Hawaii’s early Catholics including its first four bishops and many Sacred Hearts priests, brothers and sisters who helped establish and spread the faith in the islands in the latter half of the 19th and early 20th century.
