Thirteen parishes, one fifth of the parishes in Hawaii, will receive a new pastor or administrator on July 1, the customary date for yearly clergy assignments in the Diocese of Honolulu.
All of these appointments have already been announced in the official notices on page 2 in the Hawaii Catholic Herald.
Eight parishes will receive new pastors. Three are diocesan priests; five belong to religious orders.
Father Nicholas Brown moves from Immaculate Conception in Ewa to St. Pius X Parish, Manoa.
Father Siegfred Dosdos, is leaving St. Benedict Church in Honaunau on the Big Island to be pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Ewa.
Father Sebastian Soosai, is coming in from St. Roch in Kahuku to be pastor of St. Elizabeth Parish, Aiea.
Four of the new pastors belong to the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette.
Father Geronimo (Eric) Castro, MS, will remain at St. Joseph Parish, Waipahu, but as pastor, no longer as parochial vicar.
Father Edison Pamintuan, MS, will move from Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue to St. Joseph Parish, Makawao, taking over from a diocesan priest.
Father Efren Tomas, MS, will be assigned to Christ the King Parish, Kahului, from St. Joseph, Waipahu.
Father Augustine Uthuppu, MS, is moving from Christ the King Church on Maui to Immaculate Conception Parish on Kauai.
Capuchin Franciscan friar, Father Paulo Kosaka, is going from Our Lady of Mount Carmel to St. Rita Church, Nanakuli.
Two of the new pastors are replacing retiring priests Father Alapaki Kim of St. Rita, Nanakuli, and Father Arnold Ortiz of St. Elizabeth.
Five parishes are gaining new administrators.
Administrator is the title given to priests who act as pastors but who do not belong to the Diocese of Honolulu or to any religious order assigned to oversee local parishes.
Father Falaniko Atonio, of the Diocese of Samoa-Pago Pago, will go to Malia Puka O Kalani Parish, Hilo, from Our Lady of Sorrows, Wahiawa.
Father Paul John Camiring, of the Archdiocese of Manila, will be administrator of St. Roch Parish, Kahuku. He is now parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth.
Father Octavius Moo, who is moving from Sacred Heart Parish on Lanai to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Wahiawa, is from the Diocese of Damonga, Ghana.
Father William Quiamjot, a priest of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga, Philippines, will go to St. Benedict Parish, Honaunau.
Father Leonard Tubana, of the Diocese of Abra in the Philippines, now a parochial vicar at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, will be the new administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Waikane.
Six parishes will receive new parochial vicars, formally called “associate pastors.”
Father Napoleon Andres, MS, is assigned to St. Joseph Parish, Makawao.
Newly ordained Father Arrion Rosales-Llantos will go to St. Elizabeth Church, Aiea.
Father Lazarus Anondee, a priest of the Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga, Ghana, is assigned to Sacred Heart Church, Honolulu.
Father Marcialito Maglana, of the Diocese of Tagum, Philippines, will be at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, Honolulu.
Father Valentine Sun Tun, MS, a new La Salette priest from Myanmar (Burma), is assigned to St. Joseph Church, Waipahu.
Father Anil Kochuthazhath, MS, a new La Salette priest from India, will go to Christ the King Church, Kahului.
With the addition of Father Sun Tun and Father Kochuthazhath, Hawaii will have 13 La Salette Fathers.
Father Royd Mweemba was assigned as parochial vicar at St. Michael Church Kailua-Kona on June 3.
Blessed Sacrament Father Paterno Labasano, arriving July 5, will be assigned to diocesan hospital ministry. He will reside at Mary, Star of the Sea Rectory, Waialae-Kahala.
