Catholic radio has come to Oahu, but it’s a different radio provider than originally planned.
Last summer San Diego-based St. John Paul II Catholic Radio (JP2 Radio) announced it was working with the Diocese of Honolulu and IHS Media to fundraise for a potential Oahu station.
However, in December, Bishop Larry Silva received a letter from another Catholic radio company, Relevant Radio, which already had a station on Maui, saying they’d purchased an FM station on Oahu and would launch in February.
“In light of this development, we have abandoned the efforts to bring in St. John Paul II Catholic Radio,” Bishop Silva said in an email.
He also mentioned that anyone that had donated to the JPII Radio station project should get a letter asking where they want their donation to go, either as a refund or to related JPII Radio work.
You can now hear Relevant Radio on Oahu from two signals. Broadcasting from Waianae is 101.1 FM KORL HD4 and from Waipahu is 103.9 FM K280FC. Your signal strength will vary depending on where you are on the island.
