Bishop Larry Silva celebrates Mass on April 23 commemorating the 180th birthday of Servant of God Joseph Dutton at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe, Vermont, the birthplace of the candidate for sainthood. Dutton, a Civil War veteran who spent the final 45 years of his life serving the people of Kalaupapa in atonement for his previous dissolute life, and whose cause for beatification and canonization has gained Vatican approval, was born where Blessed Sacrament Church stands today.
