BENEFIT FOR LEARNING – The Special Education Center of Oahu’s director, Sister Agnes Jerome Murphy, oversees the activities of one of the students, who is handicapped in learning. This specialized school for such students will hold a benefit next Saturday at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. The public is invited to attend.

Movin’ on up: Thanks to an old cemetery, apartments for retired clergy have been bought with thin air
Through an arrangement initiated by Bishop Joseph A. Ferrario in the early 1990s with the Meyers Corporation, the developers of the posh new One Archer Lane condominiums on North King Street, the diocese received nine apartments in exchange for the “air rights” above the adjacent Catholic cemetery.
“Air rights” refer to the amount of open space around a building which, according to state regulations, can determine how high the structure can be built.

Kapiolani Park celebration planned to cap Year of Faith
The Diocese of Honolulu is planning a festive day in the park to mark the end of the Catholic Church’s Year of Faith in November.
Tentatively called the Catholic Cultural Celebration, the event being planned for Kapiolani Park in Waikiki, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Nov. 23 will feature a prayer service, entertainment, music, food and inspirational speakers.
