Photo: Blessing of the chrism

03/29/2023 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Bishop Larry Silva breathes over the holy chrism, part of the rite blessing one of three holy oils at the Chrism Mass for the Kauai vicariate, March 14, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. The Chrism Mass is celebrated every year during Lent. The other oils blessed are the oil of catechumens and the oil of the sick. Bishop Silva celebrated the Chrism Mass for the Maui-Lanai Vicariate, at St. Joseph Church, Makawao, on March 23, and the Chrism Mass for the East and West Hawaii Vicariates at St. Michael Church, Kailua-Kona, on March 30. The Chrism Mass for the Oahu vicariates is scheduled for April 4 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa. The oils are distributed to their respective island parishes for use in the administration of the sacraments. (HCH photo | Anna Weaver)
