Maryknoll School has begun renovating its 100-year-old hall into the school’s first performing arts center.
Bachelot Memorial Hall is on the National Register of Historic Places. Maryknoll School along with Sacred Heart Parish began a capital campaign in 2021 to raise the $3 million it estimates for the renovation. The center will also serve as a parish hall.
“This is a dream come true for our students, faculty and staff at Maryknoll School,” said Maryknoll School president Shana Tong in a press release. “Bachelot Hall will provide the opportunity and venue for performing arts to grow and will serve to inspire creative endeavors for many generations to come.”
Maryknoll’s Performing Arts Center will be used for dance, choir, band and theater performances, as well as, classes, science fairs and other competitions, and a gathering place for students.
As part of the capital campaign, Maryknoll received two gifts totaling $2 million from Dr. Tom and Mrs. Mi Kosasa, and the Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation.
The project’s anticipated completion is January 2024.
The hall is named after Sacred Hearts Father Alexis Bachelot, Hawaii’s first Catholic missionary priest.
